There are many reasons to purchase a Flash Drive and for me it was moving files quickly from one computer to another without burning them to a CD. Unlike Guild Wars which has streaming updates there are many games which do not do this. So for me, this was easier then burning a cd.

I was able to get a hold of two Flash Drive Companies “Lexar and Iomega” and have some questions answered.

First up is Peter Carcione, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Lexar

Q: Question
A: Answer
Opinion: Just my opinion on the answer.

1: Mordakaida – Q: I do see a 2gig flash drive on Lexar site but does Lexar make any flash drives above 2gig.

Peter – A: Currently shipping 4GB in both FireFly and Lightning.

Opinion: Wow that is a big whopping flash drive.

2: Mordakaida – Q: What is the highest security a flash drive can have?  I saw the JumpDrive Secure II which adds security and password protection.

Peter – A: JumpDrive Secure II provides excellent consumer level protection. For increased enterprise level security, we have the S1100. The S1100 provides forced hardware encryption. Everything that you write to it is automatically encrypted.

Opinion: I personally have a 256mb JumpDrive Secure II and I enjoy it very much.

3: Mordakaida – Q: From a gamers perspective.  Getting the latest patch/update is crucial.  I do know that transfer speed is based on the usb ports on the computer but what is the max speed that Lexar Flash Drives can handle.

Peter – A: The 4GB Lightning provides a guaranteed sustained read speed of 30MB/s and a guaranteed sustained write speed of 21MB/s. Not up to, guaranteed.

Opinion: Can we say whiplash?

4: Mordakaida – Q: There are several designs and styles of Lexar products.  Will Lexar make gamer specific Flash Drives. Such as design or colors of a game. "Some issues with game companies on this issue so you do not have to provide any information on this"

Peter – A: Nothing to announce at this time.

Opinion: **tears up** And why not.

5: Mordakaida – Q: The JumpDrive Mercury offers monitor of storage.  Is there any other products that offer similar function?  LAD Lights, LCD Display or other function to give a personal look and feel.  Design and function are both huge parts to a gamer.

Peter – A: Mercury is currently our only product to feature the capacity meter. Capacity meters have made their way on to many competitive products, but here is what makes our different: We felt that a capacity meter, just like a gas gauge needs to be accurate and trust worthy. That is why our solution is driverless – it is done in firmware – which means, it is platform agnostic and does not require administrative privileges. It really is the coolest capacity meter on the market.

Opinion: I like this meter thing on a jump drive.

6: Mordakaida – Q: What is the durability of the Lexar Flash Drives.

Peter – A: All of our speed rated drives, which include Mercury and Lightning, use SLC NAND flash. Unlike MLC flash, SLC is faster and 10 times more durable. While MLC is rated at 10K writes, SLC is rated at 100K writes.

Opinion: Can anyone understand what he just said?

7: Mordakaida – Q: Any other information you feel that is relevant or would like to share?

Peter – A: Windows Vista has a new feature called Ready Boost. Ready Boost will enable you to use your Flashdrive as a RAM cache. Speed rated drives are going to allow you to take advantage of new features like ReadyBoost as well as give you access to advanced features such as applications storage. All of our speed rated drives come standard with PowerToGo, a portable working environment that allows you to take many standard Windows programs with you on the go.

Opinion: Wow, this feature makes me want to go get Vista.

Next up is Collan “Support” with Iomega.

1: Mordakaida – Q: What is the largest flash drive Iomega makes

Collan – A: Out of the micro mini drives that Iomega makes, we have a 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB.

Opinion: Not to bad of file sizes.

2: Mordakaida – Q: What is the highest security a flash drive can have?

Collan – A: Our micro mini drive that has the most security would be our 4GB micro mini drive which is bigger than these aforementioned drives and it comes with the Iomega Automatic Backup Pro software which you can use to password protect the info that you save.

Opinion: Now wait!! I do not think Collan answered the first question right.

3: Mordakaida – Q: From  a gamers perspective.  Getting the latest patch/update is crucial.  I do know that transfer speed is based on the usb ports on the computer but what is the max speed that Iomega.

Collan – A: Flash Drives can handle.
Performance
Read/Write High Speed:
480 Mbit/sec
Up to 5 MB/sec read
Up to 3.5 MB/sec write

Opinion: um cool?

4: Mordakaida – Q: There are several designs and styles of Iomega products.  Will Iomega make gamer specific Flash Drives. Such as design or colors of a game. "Some issues with game companies on this issue so you do not have to provide any information on this"

Collan – A: We don't have gamer specific drives.  I don't know if we will be coming out with any.

Opinion: growls

5: Mordakaida – Q: Are there any products that offer LAD Lights, LCD Display, memory capacity or other function to give a personal look and feel.  Design and function are both huge parts to a gamer.
All the micro mini drives look the same and I don't have LAD lights or LCD display.

Collan – A: You may want to make a suggestion through our website by going to Contact Us, and then choose email for General Feedback about Iomega.

Opinion: This is a Q&A not a product suggestion sheet.

6: Mordakaida – Q: What is the durability of the iomega Flash Drives.  Durability is crucial to the on the go gamer and general person.

Did not respond to this question.

Opinion: Did not even respond to this question or the next one.

7: Mordakaida – Q: Any other information you feel that is relevant or would like to share?

Did not respond to this question.

Opinion: It seems that Iomega just did not care and tried to get rid of me. :( **sniffles**

This may help you in your selection but hey I go for design so head over to their sites and search for yourself. :)
