A small guide on how to be successful in PVE

PVE “Player vs Environment”

The first thing you should know is to successfully pick your party. Any combination will work if you work around spells, weapons and player attitudes. Do not just pick people randomly then leave, you want to choose carefully and even wait 5-10 or so minutes before you leave by talking to your party members on what spells they have and what is effective in the region you are in.

Along with looking for the proper party you should look out for peoples attitudes. You want relaxed people who will listen. Even though you may or may not get in into a group with someone who can not sit still or close there mouth long enough to understand what is going on. A more relaxed group will be more likely to listen, stop and plan during mission if the need arises and tend to be a lot nicer.

During the 5-10 minute planning session before the Quests, Missions or general combat. Plan each person's role in the party. “From Leader, Tank, Healer or other duties in the party.” If you know the general type of Monster “enemy” that awaits you outside then try to equip spells, weapons and armor that will benefit you.

Example: If you know that there are monsters with a lot of De-Regen skills then bring a few interrupts with you to stop players from losing too much health.

One you have talked about party overall setup, think of personal needs. Each person should at least bring one self-heal skill along with some type of resurrect skill. “Resurrect signet for non-monks “Primary or secondary” and Rebirth Skill for monks “Primary or secondary.”

Once the party has finished talking about tactics and skills, wait until everyone is ready finishing their build then leave town. Once you have left the town be aware of your surroundings. Notice different paths you can take too the same location. Never charge into a horde of monsters without watching their path or watching the surrounding enemies. If there is a large horde of monsters, not all of them are in the same party and are just walking past. Wait a bit for them to separate and pull the enemy party to you away from the others. If the pack you are pulling have mostly casters you want to pull then back up so the casters will follow to a safe distance from the other enemies that you do not want to aggro.

Choose your targets carefully. Try to take out the monk of the group first, Casters “Mesmers/Elementalists then Rangers depending on builds” second then warriors last. A exception to this rule is when a warrior attacks your monks. Try to kill the warrior as fast as you can or at least take the aggro away from your monks. This may be a hindrance but healing is a key in PVE and PVP.

The most suicidal part in any party is getting in over your head. Knowing when to fight and when to flee is crucial Running off a bit to let the enemy move back so you can resurrect your party members. Better to start fresh with a Death Penalty then it is going only half strength.

Some helpful Tips from moonmonday:

1: Try not to stray from the group unless specific purpose of a strategy that was already discussed.
2: Learn how to use the map to communicate clearly and concisely.
3: Know all the strengths and weaknesses of your character's chosen class and use them to your advantage.
4: Use Left Shift + Left Ctrl + Space to call your targets.
5: Raise only the attributes that your actually going to use. Check your skills that have equipped to see what categories you need to concentrate upon most.
6: Do not be too harsh on a Monk about healing, because they only have so much energy, just like the rest of you. Most likely they are doing the best they can.

Content Overview:

1: Take your time in choosing a party.
2: Plan your battles before hand and change plans due to monster size, movement and area.
3: Equip the proper skills, weapons and attributes.
4: Kill monks first, Casters, Rangers than warriors, unless warriors are attacking your monks then take out warriors as fast as you can.
5: Know when to fight and when to run.

WARNING: This is only a guide to help you. Some things will work and some things won't work. You will just have to feel out the situation for each area, monster and group.
